FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you perhaps have more than just a few questions concerning the work we do at the Chelsea wood floor sanding company? We thought so – here we’ve drawn up a list of those which, in our experience, are the most popular and have tried to answer them for you in advance. If your own particular query is not on the list, contact us and we’ll be more than happy to help.

WHY SHOULDN'T I DO THE JOB MYSELF?

You can always do that, of course. But people often don’t realise that properly repairing, sanding and applying a good finish to a wooden floor is a skilled task and not just something for a Sunday afternoon DIY ‘project’. Parquet in particular can be tricky and easily messed up if tackled on an amateur basis.

CAN I EXPECT GREAT CLOUDS OF DUST EVERYWHERE?

Not any more! It used to be the case that floor sanding was a messy job and the best that could be done to limit this was to seal off other rooms before starting up the sanding machines. We still do that, of course, but the equipment itself has become very dust-limiting and so you won’t get anything like the amount of dust released into the air by them.

CAN MY HORRIBLE OLD FLOOR REALLY BE RENOVATED?

Often if you experimentally lift the edges of a carpet to see what the floorboards look like you’ll quickly replace it, appalled at the condition of them! You’ll think that there’s no way this floor can be renovated and made to look like the ones you see in the glossy magazines of Scandinavian homes with blazing log fires.

But in fact those dried-on paint stains and patches of ingrained dirt are usually successfully sealing in and protecting the underlying fresh wood, and all you have to do is have them professionally sanded off. Once the preliminary repair work has been carried out, the sanding will reveal all that trapped beauty for you to enjoy once again.

HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT THE WORK TO TAKE?

In our long years of experience, sanding an average-sized wooden floor in SW3 Chelsea generally takes about one full day. Allow a further day for applying an eco-friendly finish in the form of a wax, stain, seal or other application and you’re talking two days for the entire job. Please note though that you won’t be able to move furniture back into the room, or walk on it, until the varnish or oil applied has cured fully, and that badly damaged floors may need a little extra time to repair.

DO THE PEOPLE WHO DO THE WORK HAVE ANY TRAINING?

Everyone employed by the Chelsea floor sanding company is fully trained to use the cutting-edge equipment and understands the requirements of different types of wooden flooring. They’re experts at using the appropriate seals and stains chosen for the finishes and the same team will work on the one job from start to end. You’ll be given a point of contact for queries and to check how the work is going and this will not change throughout the whole process.

WHY SHOULDN'T I ADVANTAGE OF A DEAL ON SANDERS AT MY LOCAL HIRE SHOP?

The trouble with using equipment from hire shops is that although it may have started out in great condition it will have been through quite a few customers by the time it reaches you. These machines are usually not very well maintained, but we can guarantee that ours certainly are, and that they’re supremely fit for purpose. You can after all be as skilled as you like but if your tools are inadequate this will reflect in the end result.
